Our Coffee Story

It all began when we took over the Koloa store and tried an espresso drink. It was awful! Back in 1985, making a decent cup of coffee on Kauai wasn’t exactly a popular idea. But on a trip to Mill Valley, California, I stumbled upon a man roasting his own beans in a small Italian roaster at his corner coffee shop. I thought, "We can do that."

Soon after, we bought a 25-pound roaster, tucked it into a container behind our ice cream production area, and set off to the Big Island to find Kona coffee beans. After visiting farm after farm, we finally landed on a coffee that hit the spot. That’s how our first blend, Kona Supreme, came to life. At first, we were just brewing coffee. But everything changed when we saw a man in Oahu selling pour-over coffee. The freshness was something else. We knew immediately that we had to bring that same freshness to our customers.

From Roastery to Retail

Fast forward 40 years, and we’ve expanded our collection of beans and our coffee-making expertise. What started as a small side project has become a pursuit of a delicious cup of coffee, whether enjoyed with a pastry, at home, or in one of our stores. Wherever we go, we take our coffee with us—it’s just that good!
