Waimea Town Festival Ice Cream Eating Contest

Warm sunny days, Aloha Spirit and plenty of Lappert’s Hawaii ice cream are the essences of island life here on Kauai. Nowhere is this more evident than at the annual Waimea Town Celebration Event, a two-day festival that benefits the fundraising efforts of West Kauai schools, clubs and non-profits.

Over 15,000 residents and visitors from all over the island showed up for the fun. Amongst the wide array of craft tents and local food vendors, numerous events were held including Hawaiian outrigger canoe races, cowboy events, a ukulele contest, lei making contests, softball tournaments, and Lappert’s Hawaii’s own ice cream eating contest.

This event has been a crowd favorite over the last several years, and this year’s contest proved once again that Waimea knows its ice cream. The contest consisted of six age groups and with over twenty contestants per event, the participation level was excellent.

Participants were given three minutes to devour as much of a pint of Lappert’s Hawaii Super Premium Vanilla Ice Cream as they could handle. For some, the ice cream head rush was just too much to handle, and they were left contemplating their strategy for next year’s event. But it was the seasoned ice-cream-eating-athletes who could power through the head freeze that were awarded the spoils of victory. In fact, Larry Einhorn of the senior age group is a six-time First Place finisher in the contest.

First, second and third place finishers were awarded with cash prizes, movie tickets, and of course, coveted Lappert’s Hawaii Super Premium Ice Cream gift certificates. Although, most who have tasted our frozen treats would agree that if you’re eating free Lappert’s Hawaii ice cream, you’ve already won.

The Lappert’s Hawaii ohana would like to say Mahalo to Waimea Town, and especially to Jane Seto for including us once again in this wonderful event. We all share your Aloha Spirit, and very much look forward to participating again next year.
